The Lake Tegernsee is my first treasure of the month. It is a beautiful hidden place in the German alps that never meant a lot to me. Yes, I have travelled there since I was born, since 35 years, BUT I never really appreciated it. Now with the kids, I got to know the area in a completely different way. Every step has a meaning and a different view to the things. Right in front of your doorstep the cows are waiting while eating the freshest grass I have ever seen since I left Germany 1,5 years ago. In the early morning you are woken up by the big bells hanging around their necks, goats are waiting down the road, a horse here and there and a stunning, gorgeous view on the mountains. Just beautiful.
“Siebenhütten” – which means “seven huts” in German, is an easy going walk with kids for around 30-45 minutes to pretty lovely little huts. Even with a stroller you can manage that little hike! Once you reach the 7 little huts you don´t want to leave any more. You can sit outside any of them and they serve home-made cakes, strudels, great bread with delicious toppings, soups and of course beer, juices and anything that you would desire in the mountains! The kids love to play in the shallow Weissach-River, throwing stones from the tiny bridges or just watching the birds and flowers and running around in the vast and beautiful grounds.
Always be prepared for any kind of weather when you go to lake Tegernsee. For rainy days you can easily go to indoor-swimming-places with the kids, you can eat in the nicest restaurants and stroll around the shops in Rottach-Egern. Weather is changing quickly there, so always have your rain-clothes with you in the summer months but as well your swimming gear to enjoy the beautiful soft and cool water of the lake.
