have you ever wondered why postnatal trainings seem to be so little efficient, boring and hard to remember for yourself to train independently afterwards? As you know I have 3 little treasures, my last darling was born in July, so only 4 months ago. I was a course-junkie in my pregnancies… I probably did around 6 prenatal and the same amount of postnatal courses. But amongst all those courses that I did, the first one that really made me remember exercises and that was sustainable in a way that I integrated exercises in my everyday life was the CANTIENICA® Training I did in Hamburg.
After my third natural delivery I was really looking for a deep muscle training, that helps me build up my pelvis muscles again. My lovely midwife suggested me to apply for the Cantienica Training at the studio of Claudia Mahler. I was sceptic price-wise at first – but the amount is such a good investment in yourself, and best of all: most likely you don´t have to pay it all by yourself. My insurance company reimbursed the whole amount and I heard the same from friends. Most probably a big part of that price will be paid back to you!!! You really have to go there – do it for your future, and I really don´t need to advertise for them. Just handing you over my experience.
The great thing is: the method was established bei Benita Cantieni in Zurich but you can do it in many cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Cantienica method is really a very soft training for a better posture and a strong and flat belly.
For you I interviewed the owner of the CANTIENICA®-Studio Hamburg, Claudia Mahler, she founded her Yoga-Studio back in 1984 and since 2003 she is an official CANTIENICA®-Studio . Claudia was the first Cantienica-Trainer in Hamburg, she is a tough, professional and very efficient trainer and a lovely person!
Since I loved this postnatal course so much, I am continuing with the Mama-Power-Program for the next months. I really learned how important it is to work continuously on my pelvic muscles.
TheTreasurette: Why is it so important to do a postnatal training?
Claudia Mahler: Even if women feel quite good after giving birth it is so important to train the body afterwords. Especially the pelvic muscles were used and highly demanded during pregnancy, delivery and afterwards through carrying your newborn or heavy elder siblings, that you need to build up those muscles again to prevent incontinency and chronical back pain. Since I am a mother myself I know exactly how hard it is to organise the everyday life for a young mother, and oftentimes there is not even an hour time for the mother herself. That is why we try to make it as easy as possible for the moms, we offer a lovely baby-care, so that the mothers have a whole hour just for themselves.
TheTreasurette: How long do you have to wait till you can start exercising after giving birth?
Claudia Mahler: You can start as early as 6 weeks after giving birth, but it all depends how you and your body feel after delivery. Some women take several months until they start with post natal trainings which is fine as well. The training success will come any time as long as you train frequently.
TheTreasurette: You have a studio in Hamburg since 1984 that offers several pre- and postnatal trainings, yoga and the Cantienica-Method, what is that method about?
Claudia Mahler: It is really the most efficient and sustainable postnatal training that I know. Benita Cantieni founded that method and is constantly improving her training. Cantienica is really a concept of success to prevent and work against misalignment and inappropriate weight bearing that cause physical complaints. The method is perfect for people that want to overcome their complaints quickly, sustainable and that are looking for something that is suitable for everyday life. The key success factor is the Understanding of the whole body of all the. In our courses we give instructions for self-healing your body. It is proven by many of our customers that the method really works and clients feel the improvement already after several lessons.
TheTreasurette: What is the difference to other training methods?
Claudia Mahler: If you ask me like that, I have to confess that almost EVERYTHING is different. In many other courses the training is only focused on the outer layer of the pelvic muscle, the sphincter muscle. Abdominal training is commonly NOT allowed at all and many aspects are only touched and talked about superficially. Many times there is a lack of good and understandable didactics. We teach all the details in the first lesson already, since working with the deep pelvic muscles is essential for the success of the method. The inner layer of the pelvic muscle, the LEVATOR ANI, which is carrying all the organs, is the key factor to have an automatic access to the deeper abdominal and back-muscles. If you activate the deeper pelvic layers, these other muscles are working automatically and they quickly gain strengths and firmness. And once our clients get and really feel that connection between the deeper pelvic layers and muscles and the rest of the body, you can recognise the glow in their eyes. And best of all: they really get back to me to tell me, how quickly many of their problems get suddenly solved. Back-pain, haemorrhoids, pain in the neck, incontinence and many more.
TheTreasurette: How can you integrate postnatal exercises into your everyday life?
Claudia Mahler: In a very simple way we teach all our women to activate the pelvic muscle while walking, standing, talking, sneezing and carrying so that they can easily integrate it into their everyday lives. And once the body has learned how to activate those muscles, it will always remember it. So funnily I have many patients that tell me later on that everything they do, emptying the dishwasher, carrying their children and walking through the park transform into little personal training sessions for them.

Treasurette-Fave: Many of her exercises are includable into your everyday life which I found so helpful, otherwise you often forget too complicated instructions immediately. I really use my pelvic muscle every time I empty the dishwasher for example… it is so much fun!
